Bathing Boxes and Other Memorable Moments En Route to Phillip Island

My day tour of Phillip Island is jam-packed with so many goodies that I’ll share them over the next few posts.

Let’s start with these bathing boxes at Brighton Beach just outside of Melbourne. Aside from their prime location right on the ocean, these one-room sheds have a few drawbacks… like no electricity and running water. But that didn’t stop someone from paying $260,000 Australian dollars for one in 2011…!

Australian actor Eric Bana even owns one.

The bathing boxes are boarded up during the colder months, but our guide tells us this beach is quite popular during the summer.

Check out the variety of color combinations / designs in each bathing box:

After lunch we stop by the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory. I buy a package of mixed cookies to enjoy on the way back to Melbourne that evening.

As the sign below reads, this display is made entirely of chocolate… including the sand.

You can eat your very own Phillip Island penguin! They’ve even dipped them in white chocolate.

I present 20 reasons to eat chocolate from the factory’s website:

You can tour the factory, but if my favorite chocolate tour guide Victoria isn’t leading them, I’m not interested.

We visit Woolamai Beach. Again, the crowds are non-existent in the off-season but our guide tells us that during summer it’s hard to find an open stretch of sand to lay out your towel.

We also stop at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and I attempt to snap a photo of the cars whizzing by on the race track.

Tomorrow I’ll share photos of my favorite furry friends at nearby Maru Koala & Animal Park. Cuteness abounds.
