It’s day two of our 3-day adventure on Fraser Island and we wake up to this view:
After breakfast we stop in the ‘town’ of Eurong (population: 77 in the 2006 census).
Every single time I hear the name of this place I think, “You right!”
My pun-ny Grandpa Henry is smiling down proudly.
Check out the message on this mail box… its collection is tide dependent.
Next stop: the Champagne Pools!
The champagne pools are several swimming holes right along the beach. They are named after the foam “bubbles” which result from splashing waves.
These plants squirt out water when you pinch them:
We walk back from the Champagne Pools and glimpse down the beach towards Indian Head.
Just before lunch at Waddy Point, we stop by a “secret” beach because Troy wants to show us a Giant Beach Worm.
Here’s Troy auditioning for the Baywatch: Fraser Island spin-off.
He spots the men below searching for beach worms and wants in on the action.
This guy has some sort of bait in the bag. Once a worm rears its head, you can pull it up. They are over a meter long… I’m not actually sure I WANT to see a giant beach worm.
Troy uses a bit of fishing bait pinched between his toes, to no avail. We will resume our quest for the giant beach worm after lunch.
Oh, and we spot this thing. Dead jellyfish? I’m not sure, but between this and the worms I’m content to photograph the water from shore.
But this little guy is cute, pinchers and all:
Here is where we stop for lunch at Waddy Point.
This is the point when I turn to Troy and say it’s the BEST DAY EVER. Check out these views:
Troy demonstrates his newly developed skill: the back-flip.
We have about 45 minutes after lunch to hang out. I walk around with my camera to capture the bliss of the moment.
Crabs dig up these tiny sand balls and leave behind a starburst pattern:
… are you kidding me with these views?!
More tomorrow on our post-lunch activities. Hint: they involve sharks.
Many thanks to Dropbear Adventures for sponsoring my tour in exchange for photography services. Opinions are my own.
Simply beautiful. You must be using some major powerful sunscreen to not be getting sunburned in all that gorgeous sun and sand.
Thank you Candice! Yes, lots and lots of sunscreen. I’d burn in minutes without it!
Nice to see such clean water.
Yes, the water all over Fraser was fresh, clear, and clean. It made our multiple swimming stops a delight!
