Falmouth is a city right next to scenic Woods Hole, which I wrote about over the past two days. If you’re making the trek to the far southwest corner of Cape Cod to see one, you might as well see the other — both are lovely.
After a full afternoon walking around Woods Hole, we were ready for dinner. My parents introduced me to a favorite spot of theirs: The Quarterdeck Restaurant on Main Street. The whole place feels like the inside of a ship. Much of the interior was salvaged from a nearby boatyard many decades ago, and some of the wood even dates back to the 1600s.
The food is great — I got a turkey panini with bacon and avocado. My parents got seafood. There are a lot of good-looking restaurants on Main Street so choose wisely! I would have liked to eat at a half-dozen of them.
We spent a good hour after dinner walking up and down Main Street, popping into a few places but mostly window shopping. You’ll get a feel for this downtown area in the photos; it’s exceptionally charming.
September 11th memorial at the local fire station:
The restaurant below is called The Pickle Jar — how cute is that? They’re open for breakfast and lunch.
And this Italian place looks so cozy — it’s called Osteria La Civetta (the Little Owl). A little pricey but perfect for a splurge.
Speaking of yummy meals… I have a handful of photos to share from our dinner at home the following night. My parents are insanely good at making cedar plank salmon. My mom dresses the salmon with lots of lemon and fresh herbs, my dad grills it, and it comes out mouth-wateringly delicious.
My mom also made this summer salad with corn, peaches, tomatoes, onion, and a choice of basil or mint (depending on what side you picked from), all drizzled with honey. YUM.
Add sides of garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli, and voilá! A perfect meal. Add white wine for an extra bonus.
Thanks Mom & Dad for the memories in Woods Hole, Falmouth, and our kitchen table!
