My family spends a fair amount of time in Chatham, and it continually impresses me — the charming homes, the scenic beachfront, the happy buzz of shops along Main Street. Today’s post features the best shots I snapped in Chatham this summer.
I took these first few photos back in June before things kicked into high gear and Chatham officially became nuts to park and walk around.
A cloudy day at Lighthouse Beach:
A few more homes that caught my eye while returning from the beach one day:
We love Mermaids on Main! Lots of cute trinkets in here.
Another pretty exterior:
There have been numerous great white shark sightings along the coast of Chatham, leading to an artsy Jaws-themed display in the center of town:
I’ve wanted to try Monomoy Coffee for awhile and we finally got there. Delicious.
Love this quiet beach just south of Main Street. I’m told you can see Harry Connick Jr.’s house from this beach, for whatever that’s worth.
We happened to drive by Chatham Bars Inn just before a wedding began; the bride was crossing the street in front of us when I took the photo looking down on the crowd and groom assembled below. Wish I knew who the couple was so I could pass along this pic.
We enjoy stopping by the Chatham Fish Pier to admire the colorful boat and look for seals.
I spot a seal…
My favorite memory from Chatham was the picture-perfect afternoon we walked along Lighthouse Beach.
Blue sky with big puffy clouds… perfect photo ops.
I spot shark food! I mean… seals.
We were on the hunt to spot great white sharks (while I flashbacked to cage diving with these big guys in South Africa). We headed WAY down the beach towards an area known for shark breeding.
Alas, we were unsuccessful in our attempt. But mere days later someone posted this video of a shark lunging out of the water towards a seal, shot maybe a mile down the beach from where we walked.
It was a glorious afternoon — one for the record books.
Thanks for the summer memories, Chatham!
Chatham is amazing !!!
Wonderful pictures – I love the East! We are from Indiana, but my Father was from Lowell MA. We traveled every summer to visit my Grandmother in Lowell. My Mother loved the area – the houses. . . gray shingles. She had my Father put gray shingles on our Northern Indiana lake home!
Thank you for the comment, Joanna! So glad you like the photos. There’s nothing like New England in the summer, and it sounds like your parents recreated parts of that in Indiana!
