Today’s post wraps up the miscellaneous moments that didn’t fit into my previous write-up on Cape Cod activities, food, Provincetown, and Chatham. Some of my favorite pics of the summer follow because they capture the quieter moments of enjoying family time and nature on the Cape.
Red River Beach one Saturday morning:
Morning beach walk with my dad:
Sunset walk on Red River Beach — just after beach roses had blossomed, making for very pretty photo ops. Love this warm, low light.
Beach dog!
Another beach dog! With equally cute owners (my aunt and uncle) in matching Cape Cod gear:
We watched many episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My favorite — by far — is the Extreme Home Makeover episode.
We headed to the beach one evening to stargaze but clouds got in the way. Regardless, it was warm and relaxing to sit out and listen to waves lap the shore.
Well, I should say that my family sat and relaxed, while I seized the opportunity to experiment with night photography. I jumped around for 20 minutes trying to get this shot right — it’s a 30 second exposure; I spelled Cape Cod backwards with a flashlight while lighting up my own face in the middle:
Then my sister joined in on the action — we did this one only two times, and the second one game out great:
Back at the house we played our two favorite games MANY times — Settlers of Catan and Pandemic. The pups looked on with disinterest. We smothered them with cuddles.
Both my mom and sister celebrated birthdays this month — they fell during the week so we had cake / cupcakes back in Connecticut. My mom requested this delicious carrot cake:
And my sister picked cupcakes from a local shop in Hamden, CT — a whole variety for us to share. They were outstanding.
To be fair, we did play tennis before eating more than half of those cupcakes…
My sister really wanted to play Michigan Rummy, a favorite childhood poker game that we used to play with our grandparents (call us weirdos: our early family memories include playing cards). I think I won.
We celebrated my sister’s birthday again over the weekend with our aunt and uncle — my mom made a special cake that was really delicious.
And then we played Cranium — fun times:
The pups got a bath. They hated it but they’re so sweet at bath time…
One last beach walk just after sunset:
And after FIVE posts recapping our Cape Cod summer memories from 2015, that is a wrap! Hope you’ve enjoyed the photo coverage of one of my favorite places.
