A few years ago, my good friends Kelley & Irving visited Dubai and Kelley wrote a creative blog post about popular American logos in Arabic (and here’s part two!). Once I was there myself and saw hundreds of familiar brands, showcased dually in both English and Arabic lettering, I knew I wanted to do the same kind of write-up. All credit goes to Kelley, who thought of this clever idea first!
Here are eight logos in Arabic. Can you recognize the store or restaurant they are advertising? Answers are below…
Are your guesses set?
Okay… here are the answers:
The Hallmark Store is a special nod to Kelley
Here’s a few other storefronts that captured my attention in Dubai’s malls:
I hope you found these logo comparisons as interesting as I did!
haha, did Katsuya have an hour and a half wait there too?
Ha! Probably not, since there are a zillion dining options and despite all the people there didn’t seem to be a wait anywhere. Next time the Valley location is booked up we can just hop a flight to Dubai…
HAHAHA LOVE THIS! How is there a Dunkin Donuts in Dubai and not in LA! Seriously!!! So great, thanks for the nod! haha =)
Did I hear a Santa Monica location is opening soon?! At least it’s closer than the DD location at Camp Pendleton! Thanks for the inspiration for this post, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Love those signs and I’m a little sad that you go halfway around the world and can shop at Payless. When I was in Australia in May, I hated the shopping because it was all the same stores as in the Valley. I guess when Westfield owns everything, it’s all the same. Loving your pictures and stories, as always. Have fun!
Thank you, Julie! Apparently the reach of American consumerism knows no bounds — before this trip I wouldn’t have expected to see a Payless logo halfway around the globe. Interesting that Australia has so many of the same brands too.
