Arrowtown is about 40 minutes by bus from Queenstown. Autumn is peak time to visit as the leaves change and the hillside blooms yellow, red, and orange.

I wander around the quaint downtown area. The historic storefront facades have been spruced up over the years and convey a charming sense of the town’s history.

Warning: sunglasses may make you appear famous.

This area was a Chinese settlement back in the 1800s.

The town cinema is just as charming as you’d expect.

If you need further proof that Queenstown is the Adventure Capital of the World, check out this kids’ park in Arrowtown. While in the U.S. you might expect to see teenagers skateboarding around such a park, here there are FIVE YEAR OLDS testing out risky moves on bikes and boards.

The tiny girls on the ramp slid down with no supervision. I have to give them credit; these kids have guts.

I spend time in this park and cafe just off the main street. The yellow leaves are everywhere and it’s so pretty to walk around.

I try the sticky buns at Provisions Cafe and, yes, they are obscenely good.

This is the perfect leisurely afternoon.
