My final day in Los Angeles was epic. We watch TWO movies, go on TWO walks, and eat the world’s most delicious deep dish pizza.
My good friend Allison (who visited me in New Zealand last year!) and I grab iced coffee at Priscilla’s and then walk around Toluca Lake.
As I’ve written before, Toluca Lake holds a special place in my heart. My friends Kelley & Irving first introduced me to the neighborhood years ago, pointing out celebrity homes and architectural gems. When in LA, I regularly walk the area alone or with friends (Kelley & Irving, my sister, Allison).
Fun story: last year while I was traveling, Allison texted me that she had ‘checked in’ to our Toluca Lake walk on Foursquare and called it “The Erica Meyer Walking Path.” It totally made my day week.
So it was lovely to spend my final morning in LA doing a lap around my favorite neighborhood.
Then Allison and I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Are you a fan of travel? (Of course you are!) Then you’d probably like this movie. I loved it. And now I want to visit Iceland more than ever.

In the afternoon we head to Echo Park, which was under construction when I left LA over a year ago. They’ve since reopened the park and it’s more gorgeous than ever.
Enjoy these pretty iPhone pics.
Hi Allison!
We grab refreshing lemonades at Square One at the Boathouse and find a bench in the shade to gab for awhile.
The plan is to grab an early dinner at our favorite deep dish pizza place: Masa of Echo Park.
Even though it’s a calorie splurge, we ate here last month too. It’s that good.
We order the original, which has sweet Italian sausage and mushrooms. We always get this and I never want to get anything else. It’s the stuff pizza dreams are made of.
We’re so full we skip Masa’s famous croissant bread pudding dessert. Next time.
After dinner we drive down to the DGA (Director’s Guid of America) to catch the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, which won the Oscar for Best Doc this year. The film’s director Morgan Neville is in attendance for a Q&A after the screening.

This documentary is about the back-up singers for artists like Sting, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Michael Jackson. These women — some of the best singers on earth — have made careers out of doing back-up work but so rarely have an opportunity to step into the spotlight themselves. This movie gives them a chance. It’s a privilege to hear the director speak afterwards about the ins and outs of making this film.
… Then I packed, went to bed at 2am, and woke up at 5:30am to head to the airport. ZZzzzzzzz…
Goodbye for now, Los Angeles!
