I’ll keep this quick. Last year I spelled out my hopes for 2014, and some of them worked out (Africa!) and some of them didn’t (learn guitar). But whether or not they all come to fruition, I think it’s worth it to reflect on changes for the New Year. Here’s what I hope to work on in 2015.
- Do yoga poses every morning and evening for five minutes. It’s been years since I’ve taken regular yoga classes and my body is all the weaker for it. Even if I do a few poses to start and finish the day — sun salutes, a little flow, hip and shoulder openers — it will help.
- Cut back on sugar. I’ve gone off the rails. Time to be more mindful about what I’m putting in my body.
- Self-publish a photo highlights book of my travels and investigate wider publication. For Christmas I gave my Grandpa Gus a photo album of my favorite 100 travel photos; in the margins I wrote the location where each photo was taken. I was surprised by how powerful it was to flip through the album and see all my photos at once like that — it’s a different experience than looking at them digitally, and I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to put something together like that. I’ll do it in 2015 — even if it’s just for me, family, and friends.
- Get up earlier and go to bed earlier. Perhaps my night owl tendencies are so hardwired by now that it’s pointless to try. But I resolve to work on going to bed earlier and waking up at a decent hour.
- Resolve to stop wasting time on my laptop by getting distracted by social media. This is huge; I am so easily distracted by mindlessly checking email or Facebook every few minutes when I’m on my laptop. I will turn off wifi when editing photos or writing blogs posts so that the temptation isn’t there.
- Biggest one: do more to help others. Volunteer. Offer assistance at every opportunity. Help friends out. Do more things that will put a smile on someone’s face or make life easier for another person.
- Expand my horizons in travel and photography. Go to at least one new country this year. Experiment with new camera stuff (shooting style, gear, editing) instead of relying on what I already know.
- In regards to work, say yes and test the waters. Until just recently, most of my TV production work has been in soap operas. I’m enjoying working in different kinds of television (awards shows and live musicals) while I sort out what suits me best, and how to shape the next chapter of my career.
I wish you all a very happy New Year! Cheers to 2015!
Good luck with your resolutions !!
Thank you — I’m doing okay so far except for going to bed early / waking up early!
