Welcome to Nepal! I spend most of my time in the Thamel district of Kathmandu, a vibrant and touristy area full of restaurants and trekking shops.

Honey Lattes and Crispy Bacon for Life
I had no idea until I arrived that Kathmandu is a food town. I’ve done my best to sample dozens of local hot spots and report back with favorites.
Everest Day 1: Adventure and Apple Pie
It’s day one of my hike to Everest Base Camp. I fly into the world’s most dangerous airport and begin this epic trek!
Everest Day 2: Epic Bridges to Namche
Today’s challenges include a steep uphill climb and crazy swinging bridges. Thrilling views in every direction.
Everest Day 3: Namche Bazaar ‘Rest Day’
This is my favorite village on the whole trail. Check out my charming tea house accommodation and our ‘rest day’ hike to Everest View. And since when is a 4 hour hike a rest day?!

Today’s highlight: waking at sunrise to watch monks chanting at the Tengboche monastery. Plus more dazzling views and dramatic scenery.

Celebrating Diwali in Nagarkot
I spend my last nights in Nepal in the mountain village of Nagarkot, coincidentally during the Festival of Lights. I’m delighted to watch a local dance troop perform at sunset.
You could live like a king in Nepal for $40 a day. My trekking costs inflate that number, but I’d still consider Nepal a high value destination.
May I ask what tea house you stayed at in Namche Bazaar?
I wish I knew the name! I’ve just searched on-line via Google Images and Google Maps, but can’t find it. Since I was there four years ago, it might have a different name now anyways. Sorry that’s not more helpful!
